The old hound who waited

Forgotten on a dung-heap; waits twenty years for one look, then dies.

Odysseus' hunting dog, left as a puppy twenty years earlier and now lying neglected on a heap of dung by the gate. He lifts his head, knows his master, drops his ears, and dies.
