Aeolus

Mortal · Character in Homer’s Odyssey

Aeolus

Keeper of all the winds

Genial and generous until luck turns; then he shuts the door.

He entertains Odysseus for a month and sends him off with every contrary wind tied up in an ox-hide bag. When the crew open it in sight of Ithaca and get blown back to his door, he throws them out as men the gods hate.
